Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in Idaho accounting for 42% of deaths each year. Stroke is the #1 cause of serious disability and the #3 cause of death. Our mission is to reduce death and disability from heart disease and stroke.

IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments provide routine childhood vaccinations through clinics offered at the health department. Routine childhood vaccinations are offered at low cost or no cost if the parent is unable to pay. Please call the local health department to schedule an appointment. The Health Department will bill your insurance company. The Immunization Registry (a free, voluntary, and confidential service) allows you, your family, and your Doctor will know when and for what you have been immunized and if you are current on your immunizations. It will also help insure you only get the vaccines you need when you need them, always take your immunizations records to each appointment.

WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is the supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children and provides: Healthy foods each month that can be purchased with WIC vouchers. Health screenings. Health and nutrition classes. Information about community programs and referrals to health care providers. Individual counseling with registered dietitians. Breastfeeding information and support. Recipes, newsletters, and educational materials. WIC serves: Pregnant women; Breastfeeding women up to one year postpartum, non-nursing women up t 6 months postpartum; Infants up to one year of age; and Children under five years of age.

WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK contractor. Women's Health Check is a federally funded program that offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings to women who qualify. The Women's Health Check is for women who do not have health insurance that covers mammograms or pap test, meet income guidelines, are U.S. Citizens or have an Alien ID card, and are one of the following: Age 50-64 or; Age 40-49 and have not had a pap test in 5 years or longer, or never had a pap test (priority given); age 30-49 with symptoms suspicious of breast cancer (must have a clinician complete approval form); age 30-39 with symptoms suspicious of cervical cancer, confirmed by healthcare provider, age 65 or older and is NOT eligible for Medicare or does not have Medicare part B.

The Early Childhood Information Clearinghouse (ECIC) holds information about children birth through age five and includes resources available for parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals. Provides "QPR" (Question, Persuade and Refer) suicide prevention training to raise awareness about suicide as a problem in our community, identifies the most common causes of suicidal thinking, feeling and actions, and teaches the trainee three simple skills to help prevent the unnecessary tragedy of suicide. The program is available in Spanish.

A gatekeeper is anyone who is in a position to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and because of their training, knows what to do.

Training includes a QPR booklet for each participant, an expanded list of warning signs, and an expanded list of local resources. ( Fees are negotiated through QPR Institute.)

We also provide training for mental health professionals in suicide assessment and management and triage training programs for crisis lines and other first responders.
