*Injury Prevention Program, Fit and Fall Proof
Most falls among older adults are the result of lower body weakness and problems with walking and balance. One strategy with potential for preventing falls among older adults is exercise programs that improve balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance. Working with area partners, health district staff coordinates are exercise classes for seniors to increase their balance and mobility, thereby decrease the incidence of falls in our senior population.

The Oral Health Program, funded by the Maternal and Child Health Title V Block Grant, is a population-based program to promote oral health and prevent dental disease. Local oral health programs are conducted through contracts with the state's seven district health departments to conduct school-based fluoride mouth rinse programs.

*Tobacco Prevention, Control and Cessation Program
The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program addresses smoking and spit tobacco prevention, as well as environmental (secondhand) tobacco smoke clean indoor air through education and advocacy targeted toward influencing behavioral, environmental and policy changes. The Idaho Tobacco Millenium Funds allow the local public health departments to coordinate free tobacco cessation classes for pregnant women, youth, and adults.

All services- open to any resident in a four county area of North Idaho (Latah, Kootenai, Benewah, and Shoshone counties) and Eastern WA at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Services provided on a sliding fee scale.*

Breast Cancer: Provides public, community and individual education on breast and cervical cancer. Mammograms referred out to Coeur d'Alene.

The Benewah Medical Clinic has nurses that visit patients with diabetes, and educates them on diabetes and blood glucose monitoring. The clinic also has a glucometer program that provides glucometer training and education on what blood sugar means. People with diabetes are also educated on foot and eye care. They also have access to documents in Braille and large print documents.

Parenting classes which include the Positive Parenting model and Parenting as Prevention model. Class structure provides informal parent support group. On site child care provided.
